The honest crime picture
Incline Village, Stateline and the small Nevada-side communities around Tahoe consistently report low violent crime. Property crime does happen, mostly car break-ins at trailheads where visitors leave visible bags. Do not leave anything in your car at Sand Harbor, Chimney Beach or the Tahoe Rim Trail parking areas. Casinos on the South Shore (Hard Rock, Bally's, Harveys, Harrah's) have private security and are among the most surveilled indoor spaces you will ever walk through.
Solo hiking is genuinely popular here and locals do it constantly. Cell coverage is patchy on the west side of trails and inside canyons, so tell someone your route. The Nevada State Parks rangers at Sand Harbor and Spooner Lake are visible and helpful.
What actually hurts people
Altitude. The lake sits at 6,225 feet and trails climb from there. Solo travelers arriving from sea level regularly get headaches, nausea and poor sleep the first 24-48 hours. Drink twice the water you think you need and go easy on alcohol the first night. The casinos will comp you drinks; pace yourself.
Water temperature. Lake Tahoe averages 50-65°F even in July. Cold-water shock is the leading cause of drowning here, and it happens fast to strong swimmers who jump off rocks. Weather changes in minutes: a sunny 70°F afternoon can become a thunderstorm above tree line by 3pm in summer, and winter closures on Mount Rose Highway (SR-431) or the Nevada side of SR-28 happen with little warning.

Is it safe to walk between casinos at Stateline at night?
Yes. The pedestrian corridor from Hard Rock to Harveys is short, well-lit and heavily patrolled. The state line runs through the sidewalk itself and both sides are actively policed.
Any specific solo-female concerns?
Standard precautions apply, but Tahoe is one of the easier Western destinations to travel alone. Restaurants seat solo diners at bars without fuss, and the shuttle system between casino resorts on the South Shore means you rarely need to walk far alone at night.
